Hiring our microbial passengers to author the human biography

There’s an intricate dance that has played out throughout our evolutionary history. How is it that some hosts are refractory to certain microbes? Which ortholog differences determine viral infection success? Steve studies influenza viruses that have specialized to humans or birds to uncover how virus-host interactions successfully orchestrate the production of viral progeny. Divergent protein-protein partnerships or pathway engagements identified through viral scanning serve as a jumping-off point to explore functional nodes in host cells.
